Jax Jazz Legend’s Curtain Call
Details are sketchy, but it looks like Jacksonville jazz trumpeter and Jazz Fest Hall of Famer Teddy Washington is in his final hours. This from a press release from longtime Washington promoter Laddie Dwyer: “I have the horrible job of letting you know that Teddy is no longer with us. His body is still here, until his son gets into town, but he is gone. I didn’t want to tell you this way [in an e-mailed press release], but time is now of the essence. … We have lost a legend, a gentleman and a true artist. I keep thinking I am in a nightmare and will wake up. He is at Shands in MCIU. We will be planning a memorial.”
